How to get your motivation back (to podcast)

Today, I want to discuss how to stay motivated with your podcast. Recently, we took a couple of weeks off from our podcast during the Easter holidays here in the UK.

It's essential to recognise that taking a break from your podcast is perfectly fine. It provides a fresh perspective and allows you to return with renewed enthusiasm and motivation to create valuable content for your audience. However, if you've been struggling to regain motivation or find yourself continually postponing podcast plans, here are three easy steps to help you get back on track:

1. Rediscover your "why"

Take a moment to reflect on why you started your podcast in the first place. What do you want to communicate or share with your audience? Understanding your purpose is crucial as it is the driving force behind our podcasting efforts.

Write down your reasons and create a mind map to visually explore and reinforce them. Keep these reminders visible so you can refer back to them whenever you need a motivational boost.

Additionally, focusing on how your podcast helps people can further inspire you to continue producing content that resonates with your audience.

2. Develop a plan

Having a clear plan in place helps you stay organised and focused on your podcasting tasks. Consider using tools like Trello boards to outline your production schedule, newsletter creation, social media activities, and other essential aspects of your podcast.

Establish deadlines for each task and create a weekly planner to ensure you consistently release episodes. If you haven't launched your podcast yet, include a launch date in your plan to provide a specific goal to work towards. Setting goals and adhering to them plays a significant role in maintaining motivation.

3. Seek accountability and support

Collaboration and accountability can greatly enhance your motivation. Working with a partner or co-host, like Jules in my case, provides mutual support and helps share the workload. Being accountable to someone motivates you to follow through on your commitments.

Establish a support system by involving others in your podcasting journey. Consider inviting guests to participate in your episodes or even allowing them to take over hosting duties for a week. Engaging with the podcasting community, both online and offline, can also provide valuable support and inspiration.

Join existing podcasting communities or create your own to connect with like-minded individuals who can encourage and assist you.

Remember, staying motivated with your podcast is achievable. By clarifying your purpose, creating a plan, and surrounding yourself with a supportive community, you can overcome any challenges and continue producing engaging content for your audience.
